Don’t let a vacant NIT, IIIT or GFTI seat slip through your fingers.
CSAB Special Round 2026 fills every seat left vacant after JoSAA — but it runs on a separate portal, a fresh choice list, and just two rounds. This guide covers every date, rule and step, plus 1-on-1 expert guidance to help you lock the right choices the first time.
CSAB Counselling 2026 is the special round counselling conducted by the Central Seat Allocation Board to fill vacant seats in NITs, IIITs, IIEST, SPAs and GFTIs after all JoSAA 2026 rounds are over.
Registration opens July 28 and closes August 3, followed by choice locking till August 5. CSAB runs only two special rounds, and every candidate — even those who registered for JoSAA — must fill a fresh, separate application on csab.nic.in, since JoSAA choices do not carry over.

Six things worth knowing before you open csab.nic.in.
Only 2 special rounds
No third round safety net — your Round 1 choice list has to be right the first time.
Fresh registration, always
Even JoSAA-registered candidates must apply again on csab.nic.in — nothing carries over.
NIT+ system only
Vacant seats span NITs, IIITs, IIEST, SPAs and GFTIs — not the IITs.

Seat allotment runs strictly on your JEE Main 2026 rank against the live vacant-seat matrix.
Fees apply after allotment

MyExams.ai pairs you with a counselling expert to shortlist and lock choices for your rank.
What is CSAB Counselling, really?
CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) counselling is the seat-filling process that runs after JoSAA 2026 concludes. Its job is to allot seats in the NIT+ System — NITs, IIITs, IIEST, SPAs and GFTIs — that remain vacant once JoSAA finishes all its rounds, either because candidates didn’t get a seat, withdrew, or had a seat cancelled for non-payment or document issues.
CSAB counselling is not an extension of JoSAA. It’s a separate counselling body with its own registration, its own portal, and its own choice-filling process. Choices you locked during JoSAA 2026 are not carried forward — you must build a fresh preference list from scratch based on the vacant-seat matrix CSAB publishes.
Who conducts CSAB & for which seats
- Vacant seats across NITs, IIITs, IIEST, SPAs and GFTIs
- Allotment based strictly on your JEE Main 2026 rank
- Runs entirely through the official portal csab.nic.in
- Only two special rounds — no third round safety net

Who can apply for CSAB Counselling 2026?
You’re eligible for the CSAB special round if you fall into any of the categories below.

CSAB vs JoSAA: what’s actually different
Because CSAB gives you just two shots instead of five, and the eligible seat pool shifts round to round, the margin for error in choice filling is far tighter than in JoSAA.
| Particular | JoSAA | CSAB |
|---|---|---|
| Conducted by | Joint Seat Allocation Authority | Central Seat Allocation Board |
| Institutes covered | 110+ IITs, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs | Vacant seats only in the NIT+ system |
| Choices | Filled once, valid across rounds | Fresh choices required each round |
| Rounds | Usually 5 rounds | Only 2 special rounds |
| Registration fee | As per JoSAA schedule | None; fees apply after allotment |
| Who applies | All JEE candidates seeking a seat | Only those without a confirmed JoSAA seat |
Where students actually lose out in CSAB Counselling
Patterns repeated every counselling cycle — and because there’s no third round, a Round 1 mistake often can’t be corrected in Round 2.
Assuming JoSAA choices apply. They don’t — filling no fresh choices, or filling them late, means no allotment at all.
Missing the registration window, since CSAB opens with very little lead time after JoSAA ends.
Filing an unbalanced choice list — too many ambitious options and no safe backups — risking Round 2 with nothing.
Misjudging how an existing JoSAA seat interacts with CSAB withdrawal rules, accidentally costing a seat already held.
Missing document verification or the seat-acceptance fee deadline, which cancels the allotment outright.
Confusing branch preference with realistic rank expectations, ending up with a seat that doesn’t match career goals.
