NEET UG 2026 Cancelled: NTA Orders Re-Exam After Alleged Paper Leak, CBI Inquiry Begins

NEET UG 2026 Examination Cancelled by NTA

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination conducted on 3 May 2026 across India following serious allegations related to a possible paper leak and examination irregularities.

The announcement was made through an official notification released on 12 May 2026 after reports from multiple states, particularly Rajasthan, raised concerns about the integrity of the examination process.

NEET UG is India’s largest medical entrance examination for admission into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical courses. This year, nearly 22.79 lakh students registered for the examination, while more than 22.05 lakh candidates appeared for the test.

According to NTA, the decision was taken after reviewing investigation inputs shared by law enforcement agencies and central authorities.

Key Highlights of NEET UG 2026 Cancellation

  • NEET UG 2026 conducted on 3 May 2026 has been officially cancelled.
  • NTA will conduct a fresh NEET UG 2026 examination soon.
  • Revised exam dates and admit card schedules will be announced separately.
  • No fresh registration process will be required for existing candidates.
  • Students will not have to pay any additional examination fee.
  • Registration fees already paid by candidates will be refunded.
  • Existing exam city and centre preferences will remain valid for the re-exam.
  • The Government of India has handed over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
  • NTA has assured full cooperation with investigating agencies.
  • The re-conducted examination will be organized using NTA’s own internal resources and expenses.

Rajasthan Paper Leak Allegations Trigger Investigation

After the examination concluded, reports regarding a suspected paper leak began circulating on social media and coaching networks. Rajasthan Special Operation Group (SOG) had already started investigating claims related to a “guess paper” that allegedly contained several questions matching the actual NEET UG 2026 question paper.

Sources claimed that hundreds of questions were circulated among certain student groups before the examination. Following preliminary findings and investigation inputs, NTA decided to cancel the examination in the interest of transparency, fairness, and maintaining trust in the national examination system.

The matter has now been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a detailed inquiry.
